Anyone who has ever visited Thailand will know about the beauty of Thai women. In their twenties, they are striking. In their thirties, they are looking more mature, but still most are very attractive.

The women working in the ubiquitous bars and massage parlors of Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket are mostly former housewives, believe it or not, married but separated, with two kids they left back in their village with their mothers. Most are from Isaan, the North-East corner of Thailand, which has a large amount of poverty. Some are from other parts of the country, especially Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, and a very few are from Bangkok or central Thailand.

But about 1 in 100 is not a female at all, but a "ladyboy", or katoey in Thai. Quite often, they appear more feminine than the real women. I have seen many a farang ogle and lust after a very sexy woman, not realizing that "she" is a "he".

Like the women, most ladyboys are from Isaan. I have talked to a few on a one to one basis, and asked them when they first knew they wanted to be a female. All said they knew at an early age, around 5 or 6 years old. They said they liked the female manner, didn't like rough sports, were partial to art and music.

Katoeys are an accepted part of Thai culture, considered to be a third sex in Thailand. Several are movie stars and TV announcers. One is a national kick-boxing champion. You will find ladyboys everywhere, working as waiters, store clerks, hairdressers, couriers, etc.

In North America and Europe, a sex-change (also called a gender re-assignment) operation is considered to be a big deal, requiring many months of psychological counseling before the operation to make sure the person is committed to the change.

In Thailand, a sex change operation is quite common. There are several clinics and hospitals which perform it, and the cost is a fraction of what the western charge would be, typically US$5000-7000. Nevertheless, for a poor person from Isaan, $5000 is a huge amount of money.

There are three main areas in Bangkok where ladyboys are present in large numbers: Nana Entertainment Plaza (on Sukhumvit Soi 4), Patpong Road (off Silom), and Soi Cowboy (close to the intersection of Sukhumvit Road and Asoke Road, which has both BTS SkyTrain and MRT Subway stations).

At Nana, the majority of ladyboys are "pre-op", meaning they still have a penis. At Patpong and Soi Cowboy, most are "post-op", meaning they have had the operation to create a vagina. The operation involves cutting out a section of intestine, which will become the vagina. The penis is cut open and inserted into the intestinal tube; typically some of the scrotal sac is used to increase the length of the new vagina. The tip of the penis becomes the new clitoris, and is normally still sensitive after the procedure is finished and everything has healed. The ladyboys I talked to said they could still have an orgasm, but did not ejaculate.

Scar tissue is visible if the post-op ladyboy retains his/her public hair, but if it is shaved off, it is difficult to tell an artificially created vagina from the real thing.

However, this is typically not the end of the story in sex reassignment. The male body is typically larger than the female, even in Thailand, where many people seem to be 80% the size of western people. The ladyboy has to take hormones for a couple of years before the operation; these hormones help him grow breasts and reduce his facial and body hair growth. Thai men don't usually have much body hair, compared to Western men, but they do have some; hormones or another treatment are needed to reduce or eliminate it. However, hormones have a side effect of reducing the ability to ejaculate.

Males typically have a protruding Adam's apple, so that is yet another operation: it can be shaved by a surgeon to reduce or eliminate the protrusion. And many have electrolysis to eliminate body hair, especially in the armpits.

If you visit Nana Entertainment Plaza after 7PM (which is when it opens), you will find several hair-dressing establishments located on the decks that run around three sides of the structure. The ones at the front cater to the bar girls; the ones at the rear cater to ladyboys. You can watch some of the ladyboys preening and preparing their makeup.

Some of the bars are exclusively ladyboys. If you enter one such bar, you will find that most ladyboys are more than passable and some are strikingly beautiful. I don't think I have ever seen an ugly ladyboy.

As far as relationships go, ladyboys are just like Thai women. They want a long-term relationship, and they will try hard to make the relationship work. Many speak some English, but you really need a product like Speak Easy Thai to help you learn some basic Thai vocabulary. If you can communicate better, you have a much better chance of a lasting relationship.

A part of Bangkok's nightlife that should not be missed by any visitor, ladyboy cabaret shows are professionally done, with spectacular productions (lots of feathers and glitter, good music, and some comedy as well). You can see them at the Calypso Cabaret (Asia Hotel, Ratchathewi SkyTrain station), Golden Dome Cabaret (15 minute walk from Sutthisan subway station), and Mambo Cabaret in the former Washington Theater between Sukhumvit Soi 22 and 24.

This movie review or comment is about Hugo. Among the movies I am looking forward to seeing the most this fall is Hugo, Martin Scorsese's latest work. Derived from the book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, the movie, features Asa Butterfield in the starring role as Hugo Cabret, an boy who is orphaned and living a life of secret in the walls of a train station in Paris, in the 1930s. When he comes across a machine that is broken, (Chloe Moretz), a peculiar girl and (Ben Kingsley), the reserved, heartless man who operates the toy shop, he found himself a part of a mysterious, magical adventure that has the potential of putting every one of his secrets in danger of exposure. The film also features Sacha Baron Cohen in the role of the awkward train station inspector.

This movie is the very first attempt of the Oscar-winning, iconic Martin Scorsese as he ventures into family films. It is also the first time that he is trying his hands at 3D film making. Therefore, expect the film to equally appeal to children, older elementary students who may have read the novel and film buffs who take their movies seriously. This adventure is supposed to be an exceptional family pick for the upcoming holiday season; especially with its supporting cast of A-list stars, young stars Chloe Moretz and Asa Butterfield, and the legendary director, Martin Scorsese. Look forward to some tense scenes and peril as the adventure unfurls.

The latest trailer of the Hugo adventure was released on October 26, 2011 and it comes with a tone that is a great deal more serious than the trailer which was previously released in July. This most recent trailer features "Breath and Life" by Audiomachine, which is incidentally the very same music that was used in the previews of both The Fighter and The Adjustment Bureau. This is in sharp contrast to the first trailer which was released in July and featured cheerful and upbeat music. The first trailer came with "King and Queens," the song done by 30 seconds to Mars and it offers more on the playful chase of Hugo with the lumbering inspector of the station (Sacha Baron Cohen). This recently released trailer depicts Ben Kingsley more as Georges Méliès, the ground-breaking French filmmaker.

The film rights of the book were bought in 2007 by Martin Scorsese and he began filming in London at the Shepperton Studios since June 2010. This adventure film also stars Johnny Depp, Richard Griffiths, Emily Mortimer, Marco Aponte, France Dela Tour, Ray Winstone, Helen McCrory and Christopher Lee.

All ye' Bollywood fans and Bollywood lovers are interested in knowing which indeed was the most successful Bollywood movie of 2008. Is it Ghajini or Golmaal Returns? Or is there other clear winner? What do trade guides show? Which Bollywood movie truly rocked 2008? Is the most successful Bollywood movie of 2008, also your favorite movie?

1. Jodhaa Akbar : Released on February 15' 2008, Jodhaa Akbar, directed by Bollywood most prolific director Ashutosh Gowariker, was a semi hit. It went on to do a business of Rs. 62 crores. Hrithik Roshan was the USP of the film, he played Akbar so well that the historic figure is now synonymous with the actor.

2. Race: Released on March 21' 2008, Race was the first big hit of 2008. An edge of the seat thriller, the movie directed by Abbas-Mustan was full of twists and turns. As of May 30, it grossed Rs.63,67,00,000 ($14,886,600) in India, and $9,505,321 in other parts bringing a worldwide total of $24,391,921. Race is actually the fifth biggest hit of 2008.

3. Jannat: Jannat, directed by Kunal Deshmukh, was a Mukesh Bhatt film, released on May 16. Based on cricket betting, the movie extracted the career best performance of Emran Hashmi. Debutante Sonal Chauhan made a pretty picture in the movie. Jannat grossed 32,47,00,000 in 5 weeks, quite higher than its cost of production.

4. Aamir: One of the dark horse hits of 2008, Aamir directed by Raj Kumar Gupta released on June 6. The movie starring Rajeev Khandelwal was a story about how an innocent man gets trapped in the hands of religious extremists who want to bomb the city. An interesting premise, the movie did good business.

5. Sarkar Raj: Sarkar Raj, directed by Ram Gopal Verma released on June 6 2008. The movie was a semi-hit; people compared Sarkar Raj to its prequel Sarkar, and found that the sequel was not as effective as the first one. Nevertheless, it grossed 34 crores in India in its first two weeks and over $1 million in the USA.

6. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na: Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, released on July 4 2008; directed by Abbas Tyrewala and produced by Aamir Khan, was the iconic movie of 2008. The movie was a blazing hit and it is still the favorites of the youth segment, which forms a major part of the movie going audience. The youthful movie had a cliched but entertaining story with fantastic music by A.R.Rahman. in 5 weeks, it earned approximately 52.96 crores.

7. Singh is Kinng: Singh is Kinng was a movie, all Akshay Kumar fans were waiting for. Released on August 8, 2008; the movie recorded the biggest advance booking in the history of Bollywood, second only to Ghajini. With a fantastic figure of Rs.44 crores in the first week, Singh is Kinng was the fourth biggest hit of Bollywood 2008. By September, it had already earned Rs.73 crores.

8. Bachna Ae Haseeno: Released on August 15, 2008, Bachna Ae Haseeno proved to be a solace for Yash Raj films which had only given flops before this, in 2008 like Tashan and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. Made on a budget of Rs.18 crores, this Ranbir Kapoor earned Rs.31.20 crores in its second week, and was declared a semi hit.

9. Phoonk: Phoonk directed by Ram Gopal Verma was probably the least expensive movie, which did good business. The movie based on black magic was a success because of the subject.

10. Mumbai Meri Jaan: Mumbai Meri Jaan, released on August 22' 2008 was a movie based on 7/11 bomb blasts. A slightly documentary style film, it focussed on the repercussions of the bomb blasts. The movie was an an above average hit. The USP of the film was a power packed performance by Paresh Rawal and Irrfan Khan.

11. Rock On!!: Rock On (released August 29' 2008) , directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Farhan Akhtar, was another youth favorite, like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Based on friendship and rock music, Rock On was treated like a sequel to the cult movie Dil Chahta Hai. It made singer-actor-producer-director (phew!) Farhan Akhtar, a household name.

12. A Wednesday: A Wednesday, released on September 5 2008, is the dark horse success of 2008. A powerful script, impeccable dialogues and a unique treatment by director Neeraj Pandey, made this probably the most watchable movie of 2008. Naseerudin Shah proved that he is inimitable when it comes to stellar performance.

13. 1920: A spooky movie directed by Vikram Bhatt (released Sep 12' 08) was high on horror around a haunted palatial house. Newbies Rajneesh Duggal and Adah Sharma gave a spirited (no pun intended!) performance. The fantastic English locales and visual effects proved to be the USP of the film.

14. Welcome to Sajjanpur: Welcome to Sajjanpur, released on September 19 2008 was director Shyam Benegal's entry to commercial cinema. The movie shot in rural set-up brought back memories of Malgudy Days and fared well at the box office.

15. Fashion: Fashion directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, gave a push to Priyanka Chopra who went down-slide with four back to back flops in 2008. It appealed to the youth and the upper crust and did good business.

16. Golmaal Returns: Released on the same date as Fashion (October 29' 2008) , Golmaal Returns was a run-away super hit. Though marred by critics, it was declared a huge success by the masses. It surpassed the first day totals of Om Shanti Om, last year, by collecting 22.03 lakhs on day one. This Rohit Shetty venture earned Rs.48 crores in the first week, making it the third biggest hit of 2008.

17. Dostana: Dostana directed by Tarun Mansukhani for Karan Johar released on November 14' 2008. The story of two men Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham, who pretend to be gays, and fall in love with eye-candy Priyanka Chopra made the box office smile. By December 12, it had already earned Rs.80 crores.

18. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi: One of the much awaited movies, the Shahrukh Khan starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, released on December 12'08. Made on a modest budget of Rs.22 crores by Yash Raj standards, Aditya Chopra directed this movie to success. The movie also featured debutante Anushka Sharma. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi earned 7.5 crore net all over India and by day 1, and earned Rs.44.5 crores by week 1. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is the second biggest hit of 2008.

19. Ghajini: The most awaited movie Ghajini, proved to be a record breaking success. The most successful movie of the year and perhaps one of the all time big hits, this Aamir Khan movie directed by A.Murgadoss proved recession cannot beat quality. Released on December 25, 2008, this remake of the Southern movie of the same name is running quite strong, thanks to the Aamir Khan brand power. On Day 1, Ghajini earned Rs.33 crores, (compared to Rs.18 crore of Rab Ne) worldwide, something which is unheard off. Ghajini is all set to pass Rs.100 crores in three weeks, overtaking the lines of previous two years biggies Om Shanti Om (Rs.80 crores) and Dhoom 2 (Rs.85 crores).

Conclusion 2008: Ghajini has proved to be a big money spinner for Bollywood. The year 2008 has pooled in 15 percent or Rs.900 crore more than last year. Call it the Pareto Principal, if you will but Rab Ne and Ghajini have added another 20 percent more to the box office collection of movies preceding them. Masala films and movies based on 'terror issues' dominated 2008.

Some players can only handle one disc at the time; others can easily skip between 50 discs or more. Some CD players are very cheap, others are highly expensive. The list goes on and on. Regardless of which CD player you choose it will however consist of three basic parts that are found in all moderns CD players: a drive motor, a tracking device and a laser and lens system. Another thing that all CD players have in common is that they interpret data that has been stored in the form of elongated bumps on a CD (compact disc).

The drive motor in your CD player is the part that makes the disc spin round and round at a correct pace. The drive motor will gradually adjust the speed, since the correct pace depends on which part of the disc that is currently being interpreted. At some spots, the pace will be no higher than 200 rpm, while at other spots the pace needs to be increased up to 500 rpm. As the disc is rotated round and round by the drive motor, the tracking mechanism will adjust the laser assembly and make it possible for the laser and lens system to focus on the minuscule bumps where data has been stored. The laser is constantly being pushed from the centre and outward over the disc by the tracking mechanism.

The data interpreted by the laser and lens system has been stored in the form of elongated bumps on the surface of the CD. One single bump is very small and no wider than 0.5 microns. The height is greater than 125 nanometres and the length is 0.83 microns or slightly more. All these bumps are very neatly organised at the surface of the CD in the form of a 5 kilometre (3.5 miles) long spiral.

The CD itself is made up by several different layers, including a polycarbonate layer and an aluminium layer. When the laser tries to interpret data that has been stored on the CD, it will first penetrate the polycarbonate layer. The aluminium layer will then reflect the laser beam, and the light alterations will be detected by a special optoelectronic mechanism in the CD player. Since the bumps in which data has been stored reflects light in a different way compared to the areas between the bumps (commonly referred to as "lands"), the CD player can determine exactly which parts of the disc that is made up by bumps and which parts that are not.

If a CD is scratched or injured in any other way, it can be impossible for the CD player to interpret it. Sometimes only a minor part of the data will be skipped, but larger damages can render the entire CD useless. Always store your CD's in a protective casing to decrease the risk of scratches. When you clean your CD's, carefully move your hand from the centre and outwards to the edge rather than just swabbing around. Scratches that occur from a radial movement tend to be less damaging than other scratches.

Educative: It should be able to let us know about something new. Nowadays movies are considered to be one of the most effective educational tools used to teach or educate people regarding certain issues. In short a good movie should have some educative value for the masses.

Mirror of the society: A good movie must also provide some elements of encouragement and inspire people towards successfully overcoming barriers. Movies are regarded as the mirror of life. Every story of a movie is more or less inspired by our life, by what happens around us.

But this is not all; there are some other factors also which contribute in making a movie, to be considered as good. Following are the points:

The Plot: This is the most important part of the movie. Without a good plot a movie fails to attract and retain the viewers in the theaters. Even if they were drawn to it initially for some reasons, people would loose interest sooner than later.

The Characters: The second most significant factor of any good movie is the characters of the story. Without them there would be no story and no plot. Characters should be such, that the audience likes them. Be it a positive character or negative one. They should have some qualities to which the people can relate.

Actors: We need good actors to make a good movie. Actors, who can justify the characters and make them, come alive in front of the audience. They must be able to portray the characters well so that people say that the characters are made keeping them in mind. They should blend themselves into the characters.

Script: Without dialogues movies look dead. Script is the life of movies so they should be very strong and appealing. They can even make people come and see the movie repeatedly.

Last but not the least, visual display of a movie with beautiful scenes and sceneries can also influence and draw people to the theaters.

Christmas Events in Arizona

The Mesa Mormon Temple is best known for its annual Christmas light display along with its nightly live performance with many live animals (including camels). The two block area of the temple is decorated with over 3 million Christmas lights and draped over tall palms, ponds and rose gardens. It's a big draw for people from all four corners in Arizona every year as well as visitors from other states. The event runs nightly from the last week in November through the first week in January. The temple is located just east of Stapley Road on the south side of Main Street in Mesa.

Glendale Glitters will celebrate its 10th year with a month long festival including over a million lights sprawled over 12 blocks in the heart of the city. There is a shuttle service to transport visitors from the parking areas to the center of the event. The lights and decorations are breathtaking. There are many live concerts and performances, food, live entertainment, visits from Santa, hot air balloons, horse and buggy rides pulled by Clydesdale horses and plenty of shopping opportunity. The event is located at 56th Avenue and Glendale Road in Glendale.

The Gilbert Islands Community located on Warner Road just west of Cooper Road in Gilbert holds its annual lighted boat shoe at it's three man-made lakes. Santa and Mrs. Clause also make a visit for photo opportunities. Cookies, hot cocoa and coffee are served to guests. The event is free of charge. Each of the three lakes hold its own boat parade on a specific Saturday night at sunset during the month of December. The residents homes sit on the lakes and many own house boats. Residents decorate their boats and enter the competition. The residents on the boats are known for tossing candy onto the shores where the spectators line up to view the parade. Many boats have families playing their instruments and singing Christmas songs.

Rawhide located in Scottsdale holds its annual "Christmas on Main Street" the month of December through the first week in January. Festivities include live music, fudge making, carolers, old wild west gun fights and falling snow along Main Street. There is also a petting zoo, many boutiques and interesting shops, fabulous steaks, old salon, and children's activities. This is a must for anyone visiting Scottsdale. Reservations are highly recommended.

Payson, Arizona is a wonderful place to head for exciting Christmas events. The festivities start with a courthouse tree lighting which takes place the first week in December. Main Street is lined with Christmas carolers, falling snow, live music and entertainment and local vendors with their artistic creations. Hot cocoa, coffee and cookies are offered along the Main Street walk-way. There are many shops filled with excellent gift items and tons of things for the kids to do.

The second week in December they hold their annual Christmas Tree decorating contest where guests can purchase tickets to go on a home tour which usually consist of 14 Payson homes. Then visitors can vote on the best decorated tree and home. Horse and buggy transport guests from one area to the next.

The city of Chandler holds its annual "tumbleweed" lighting ceremony the first week in December along with A.J. Park's 25 foot Christmas Tree lighting event. The evening starts out with a large light parade down Arizona Avenue in downtown Chandler and ends with a surprise visit from Santa on top of one of the town's fire trucks. The festivities also include food vendors, bounce toys for the kids, live entertainment, lots of shopping opportunities, live performances and plenty of fun things for the kids to do.

The annual Phoenix Light Parade sponsored by Arizona Public Service takes place in the downtown area at 19th Avenue and Indian School Road. This is one of the valley's largest Christmas Parades. The parade begins at sunset the first weekend in December.

Greasepaint in Scottsdale and Hale's Theater in Gilbert open their Christmas live performances the end of November and run through the first week in January. Some of the past plays have included, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "A Christmas Carol." Tickets must be purchased ahead of time.

Breaking Dawn is the fourth novel in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. It is the last novel of the Twilight saga to be told from Bella Swan's perspective. The first 3 novels are:- Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse.

Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen and in another by her profound connection to Jacob Black, Bella Swan has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss & strife to reach the ultimate turning point. Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating and unfathomable consequences.

The first 3 books of the Twilight Saga show Bella as the weakest link, a breakable human. In Breaking Dawn; Bella's transformation into a vampire is so extraordinary that she emerges as the strongest of them all; so strong as to be able to protect her family from the highest authority in the vampire clan: The Volturi. It is almost as if she was born to do this. She acquires tremendous self control over her thirst & is able to shield her mind, making it impenetrable.

Many readers commented that Stephenie Meyer tried to keep a happy ending giving everybody what they wanted. I feel it's an author's right to write what she wants, what she wants her story to be, what her characters should feel. It's not that all readers would agree or believe what she believes in. I felt contended to way the series ended, just like J.K Rowling's: Harry Potter Series.

I am not going to divulge much into the story, but just a glimpse that it is divided into 3 parts; the first part is Bella's narration of her wedding and honeymoon. The second part is from Jacob's perspective about Bella's pregnancy and the split of his pack. The third part is from Bella's perspective about her new found vampire life, her motherhood, and their fight against the Volturi when they come to kill them.

Bella spends a good third of the film wallowing in her misery instead of getting the hell over it. Bella helps Jacob rebuild old motorcycles while NOTHING HAPPENS. Bella leads Jacob on but NOTHING HAPPENS. Edward almost kills himself BUT THEN DOESN'T. Edward gets in a fight with the Volturi but IS THEN FORGIVEN. Now the movie itself is very pretty, the acting's fine, the soundtrack didn't piss me off, and the special effects are convincing. 1. Sticks and stones won't break my bones" - and words won't leave any measurable physical damage, but they will cause progressive, long-term harm. Never underestimate the power of words: words are used to brainwash.

Being told you are "stupid", "ugly", "lazy" or "worthless" is never acceptable. The first times you hear it, it will hurt, naturally. In time you "may get used to" hearing it from a partner. That's when you start to internalise and believe it. When that happens you are doing the other person's work of putting you down for them. This is why your feelings of self-worth suffer increasingly over time.

The good news is that just as words have been used to bring you down, you can learn to harness the power of words to build you up and restore your confidence and belief in yourself.

2. You are always told that it's your fault. Somehow, whatever happens, however it starts, the ultimate blame is always yours. Notice that we are talking ultimate blame here. The blaming partner will always tell you that their behaviour was caused by what you said or did. In fact, their argument runs along the lines that you can't possibly blame them for anything, because if you hadn't said what you said, or done what you did it would never have happened.

3. You're more inclined to believe your partner than you are to believe yourself. Have you ever reeled with a sense of hurt and injustice, or seethed with anger at the way you've been treated? Have you found yourself asking: "Is it reasonable to feel like this?" "Am I misinterpreting things?" "Have I got it wrong?"

If this is you, what it means is that you have become so brainwashed you've stopped trusting in your own judgement. Your mind keeps throwing up the observations and questions because, deep down, you know that what is happening is utterly wrong. But right now you can't feel the strength of your own convictions.

4. You need your partner to acknowledge your feelings. Have you ever felt desperate to make your partner hear what you are saying and apologise for the hurtful things they've said? Have you ever felt that only they can heal the pain they've caused?

Does your need for them to validate your feelings keep you hooked into the relationship?

When a partner constantly denies or refuses to listen to your feelings, that is, unquestionably, mental abuse.

5. Your partner blows hot and cold. He can be very loving but is often highly critical of you. He may tell you how much he loves you, yet he is short on care or consideration towards you. In fact, some of the time, maybe even a lot of the time, he treats you as if you were someone he truly dislikes.

You do everything you can to make him happy, but it's never good enough. You're more like the pet dog in the relationship than you are the equal partner. Your constant efforts to get his attention and please him meet with limited success. Sometimes he'll be charmed, often he's dismissive.

If you find yourself puzzling about how your partner can treat you that way, it is because you are trying to live in a love-based relationship, when in reality you are living in a control-based relationship. The mental abuser struggles with his own feelings of worthlessness and uses his relationship to create a feeling of personal power, at his partner's expense.

6. You feel as if you are constantly walking on eggshells. There is a real degree of fear in the relationship. You have come to dread his outbursts, the hurtful things that he will find to say to you. (Maybe the same anxiety and need to please spill over into your other relationships also.)

Fear is not part of a loving relationship, but it is a vital part of a mentally abusive relationship. It enables the abuser to maintain control over you.

7. You can heal. Mentally abusive relationships cause enormous emotional damage to the loving partner who tries, against all odds, to hold the relationship together and, ultimately, can't do it, because her partner is working against her.

Whether you are currently in a mentally abusive relationship, have left one recently, or years later are still struggling with the anxieties and low self-worth and lack of confidence caused by mental abuse, it is never too late to heal.

But you do need to work with a person or a programme specifically geared to mental abuse recovery.

Women who have suffered mental abuse expect radical change of themselves, and they expect it right away. This is why they often struggle and, not uncommonly, take up with another abusive partner.

Mental abuse recovery is a gradual process. Low self-worth and limiting beliefs about what kind of future the abuse sufferer can ever hope for are the blocks that can stop women from moving on. But they are blocks that you can clear very effectively. Just as language was once used to harm you, you can now learn how language can heal you. You can overcome past mental abuse and keep yourself safe from it in the future. You can also learn to feel strong, believe in yourself and create the life and the relationships you truly want.

So, you currently have a job but you are looking for something a little better. You are getting tired, uptight, and maybe just a little stressed out. This is a dangerous time - the time when job seekers can turn into wing nuts and make key mistakes. So, how do you avoid tripping over those pesky landmines, you know - your current boss, workmates, and customers - and still carry out an effective job search?

Here are some of the risky situations you are going to want to tip toe around so as to not have your job search blow up in your face:

Landmine #1: Oops, I did it again! Ready, fire, THEN aim that email

You've done all the right things: Tailored a cover letter, crafted a killer resume, and found the right contact, Bill Smithers at "The Best Company In The World, Inc." Now all you have to do is hit Send. So you do, hit send that is. So far so good. OK, next target. Ms. Jane Topboss at "Dream Company Corporation." Let's see...type in email address...browse...attach file...and...send. Oops! I think I sent the Bill Smithers cover letter and resume to Jane Topboss.

Avoid this landmine by taking the necessary time and making sure you have reviewed and attached the correct file(s) to the correct email. One sure way to blow up your job search is to get in a hurry and mistakenly send the right email to the wrong person or the wrong email to the right person. Do not send ANY job search-related emails from your current place of work. Send all such email outside of work. Take the necessary time to make sure the right email is going to the right person, THEN hit the send button.

Landmine #2: Having potential employers call you at your current workplace

Jennifer Jobseeker had it all figured out. Since she was at work during work hours, it only made sense to list her work number as her contact number for potential employers. "Why burn my cell minutes and have to keep checking my home machine," she thought. Ah, poor innocent Jennifer, totally unaware of the dangerous trip wire she was about to trigger with the brand new patent leather Woodberry loafers she had just purchased as part of her job interviewing outfit. "After all, I can just grab all incoming calls, screen them and if it's an interview call just cross that bridge when I come to it." Then something went terribly wrong. Jennifer took a 15 minute break and that's when Mr. Murphy the hiring manager called. A coworker took the call, asked if he could take a message, and was surprised to learn that Jennifer had an interview scheduled for 11:00 am the following day. Take a guess at what the coworker did with this info...you've got it: The news spread around the office faster than Simon humiliating someone on American Idol and Jane was knocked completely out of her brand new loafers (metaphorically) and her current job (literally.)

Use common sense when giving out your contact info to potential employers. Never, ever, ever, ever, EVER use your current work phone number as the point of contact. Pass your cell or home number along to potential hiring folks and just let them know that if they get your voice mail, you will call them back as soon as you are able - they will understand. Two other things to keep in mind here: 1) Make sure your voice mail message is professional and not too cutesy, rude, or profane; 2) Never, ever, ever, ever, EVER call them back from your office number - if you do you will suffer Jennifer's fate.

Landmine #3: Using your current company's intranet or internet access for job seeking and interviewing

This should be a no-brainer. In most companies, every key stroke you make on your company computer is recorded and can potentially be tracked. Many IT departments now flag certain key words and phrases and automatically create reports detailing who is doing what with their laptops and desktops. These reports are then passed to management for review. Odds are you probably signed a computer use policy when you joined the company. And guess what? In addition to mandating that you can't play games, view any inappropriate sites, or conduct business outside of what your company is doing, there is likely a clause about using company property for private purposes or gain. And unless you are going to include your current company in the job search with you, you definitely do not want to violate this clause.

Landmine #4: Don't slack off at your current job

Even though you might have S.T.A (short timer's attitude) it's a good idea to not let it show. Keep doing the best job you can. Yes, it will be hard. Yes, it will seem pointless; after all you are searching for a new place to work. And yes, you will need to continue to support what you may think are mundane tasks and soon-to-be former coworkers and customers. But be aware that you are being watched. Cubicles and hard walls alike have both ears and eyes and they see and hear everything. If you change your behavior even slightly, your coworkers and your boss will likely notice. It's important to remember something here. Most bosses don't get to be bosses because they are dumb. Most bosses get to be bosses because they are continually observing events around them and seeking ways to keep things running smoothly. Your boss will know something is up if you are slacking off. Whether you like and respect your current boss or not, you are obligated to serve him or her, the company, your coworkers and your customers as long as you are on the payroll. And it's the right thing to do. You will feel better in the long run if you do the right thing.

Commit to yourself to keep putting in the necessary time and effort that you are getting paid for. Remember, you are the one looking for work so it's up to you to figure out how to balance your current work situation with your job search efforts.

Landmine #5: Attending a job or career fair that includes a booth for your current company

Let's face it, you can often find excellent job leads through a job or career fair. These events attract a large and diverse group of employers who are looking for qualified candidates just like you. So, being the go-getter that you are, you schedule a vacation day in advance (very classy) so that you can attend the job/career fair guilt free. You polish up your shoes, dust off that business suit, brush your teeth, comb your hair, go over a few interview questions in your mind, print up a dozen or so resumes and head to the event. You are prepared, you are confident, and you are going to find that next best job! After all, you don't call yourself Cory the Career Conqueror for nothing.

Imagine your surprise, accompanied by that "I've-just-been-punched-in-the-gut" feeling, when the first booth inside the door is YOUR company's booth staffed by a couple of well known coworkers and a person or two from your Human Resources department. "Why Cory, what are you doing here?" the admin assistant from HR asks, as four pairs of eyes bore into to you like some evil demon guarding the secret passage in the latest Play Station game.

Career and job fairs are great, just make sure to learn what companies are going to be represented there, and if yours is, you may want to rethink attending.

Landmine #6: Listing your current boss or coworkers as references while conducting a stealth job seeking campaign

Consider the following from the movie script "Nightmare on Just Lost My Job Street":

Scene 1: Christina is having a terrible nightmare (dissolve...fade to dream sequence...phone rings...)

"Hi Mr. Jones. My name is Megan Hiringpro at XYZ, Inc. Just a quick question if you don't mind. Do you have a Christina CareerChanger working for you?"

"Why yes I do Ms. Hiringpro. Why do you ask?"

"Oh, you don't know? Christina has listed you as one of her references and we are thinking of bringing her in for an interview but would like to get some feedback from you first."

Christina wakens in a cold sweat and realizes she has dozed off at her desk. "Whew, thank goodness it was only a dream" she thinks with relief. (Fade out...)

What a C.I.A. Black Ops Officer Taught Me About Copywriting

When I was in the Air Force, I had the opportunity to attend a
very "special" training course taught by very "special"
instructors.

One of my instructors was a former Navy S.E.A.L. who had left the
Navy to join the C.I.A. as a special operations officer. This
guy had seen combat in several different theaters of operation,
during many public (and some not so public) conflicts.

One of the things he taught us during this "advanced" training
course was a highly specialized shooting technique called the
"Mozambique" (also known as the double tap failure drill.)

This is the primary handgun shooting technique used by all elite
U.S. military units, such as the Navy SEALS, Army DELTA Force,
C.I.A. Black Ops and a few others I won't mention by name...

The basic technique is to fire two rapid shots (called a "double
tap") to the targets center of mass (middle of the chest) and
then raise your weapon up in a straight line, just a hair and put
another round in the center of the head.

Two in the heart... One in the head...

In a real life scenario, this technique is devised to provide a
guarantee of eliminating your target even if the bad guy is
wearing body armor (and thus the two rounds in the chest are
ineffective.)

We trained on this technique for days. Against stationary
targets, moving targets, simultaneous engagement of multiple
targets, from prone position, crouching position, behind
barricades, single handed firing, firing with our weaker hand (to
simulate an injury to your primary shooting arm), under low light
conditions... Every scenario you (or some sadistic ex-SEAL, C.I.A.
spook) could imagine.

The entire time our instructor is yelling... "Two in the heart, one
in the head! ...Two in the heart, one in the head! ...Two in the
heart, one in the head!" Over and over and over...

One of the other "students" in my class asked a good question
during our training. He asked, "If this technique is designed to
take down terrorist wearing body armor, why don't we just take
the head shot first? Why not always take head shots?"

The instructor's answer made the wisdom behind technique clear,
"Unlike what you may see in the movies, a headshot is a very
difficult shot to make. Particularly in a high pressure
situation, where the "target" is shooting back at you. The first
two shots to the body are the most important, because they help
get your sights centered and focused on the target, making the
headshot much easier. It's simply a matter of raising your
sights in a straight line and firing."

Okay... So you are probably wondering what in the heck all of this
has to do with writing copy.

Let me try to explain...

The problem with most copywriters is they keep taking "head
shots" first. They focus on "logical" reasons to buy and the
features of the product, rather than going for the heart with
multiple strong emotional appeals.

But this style of "head first" copy demonstrates a basic
misunderstanding of the buying and selling process.

Your prospects make decision to buy based on emotion (heart) and
then justify those decisions with logic (head.)

All buying decisions are emotional.

Emotion is what causes people to take action. Because of this
your copy needs to hit them straight in the heart. It needs to
use powerful, emotionally charged words to link your products
benefits directly to your reader's deepest emotional wants and
desires.

Now this doesn't mean that you can avoid weaving the logical
arguments into your copy. As I mentioned, people still need the
logical side to help justify the purchase decision. Without
giving them the logical reinforcement they need, buyers remorse
will set in and you will have a higher rate of refunds and
returns.

However, for each logical reason you give, you need to make a
minimum of two emotional appeals.

Just like the C.I.A. training drill you should shoot for two
thirds-heart (emotion) and one third-head (logic.)

By maintaining a balance between emotion and logic, your copy
will have the emotional power to sell them and the logical
arguments to help them justify the buying decision.

So to write effective copy you need to remember the ratio... Two
in the heart, one in the head.

The Twilight Saga is a movie a recreation of the book written by Melissa Rosenberg and since the release of the very first Twilight, there has been a really loyal fan base that have people following up on every episode of this very captivating series.

This movie is directed by Bill Condon and has stars in it such as Taylor Lautner who plays Jacob; Kristen Stewart who everyone knows plays Bella, and Robert Pattinson, the star behind the sexy vampire character Edward. Other stars in this movie includes: Peter Facinelli, Jackson Rathbone, Ashley Greene, Elizabeth Reaser, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, Tracey Heggins, Billy Burke, Maggie Grace, Rami Malek, Omar Metwally, and Andrea Gabriel amongst many others.

This chapter of the book is what everyone has been waiting for as the saga has everyone sitting on the edge of their seats. If you have seen the preview, you already know that Bella and Jacob get married and soon after Bella become heavy with child. However, this happiness that is experienced by the newlyweds is cut very short as a number of misfortunes and betrayals come into play and threaten to destroy their new found happiness.

Going to Rio de Janeiro for their honeymoon Bella and Edward finally gives into the passion that they have been keeping at pay since the day they met and it is after this that Bella finds out that she is pregnant with Edward's vampire child. She also gets her wish of becoming immortal after a near tragic childbirth experience. However, the arrival of their little girl is what started the rival between the Cullens and friends against the feared Volturi; the counsel of vampire leaders that we were introduced to in the previous episode.

Breaking Dawn is a continuation of the suspenseful series that we all know and love and it is a wonderful continuation of the passionate and supernatural fantasy that has taken the world by storm. Breaking Dawn is the end of the sequence; however, this is a two part movie and part one is coming out on November 18, 2011 and part two is expected to be released one year later in 2012.

If you are looking for some romance and suspense, it is highly advised that you watch this movie because the romance between Bella and Edward is unquestionable. In this movie, the continued Team Edward vs Team Jacob has been put to rest as it is quite obvious the team that won.

Historical review in textile printing

Textile printing is a method by which fabrics are printed in various colors, arts and designs. It is a very old art developed and created on fabrics in Egypt during 5000 B.C. Fabrics also found printed in Greek during 4th century. B.C, also it is noted that printing blocks were sourced from India in 5th century. B.C. During that time, France acknowledged as popular center of this type of cloth production and printing. Japan was popular for adding stencil work in wood by making blocks and further by pasting dies and prints it in fabrics.

In the Mid-15th Century, with the invention of printing press by John Gutenberg there was a drastic change seen in printing technology and textile printing. After practicing by William Caxton in England, there was a remarkable widespread seen in relief printing technology in 1476. In sixteen and seventeen century with the export of spices, India became major provider of printing fabrics and products, like calico, pajama, gingham, dungaree, chintz and khaki according to the requirement of European countries. Then by the efforts by Grant, Thomas Bell and many printers, with the invention of wood block (1760), copper block (1770) and copper roller (1797) printing technology in the eighteenth century, especially the trend of cotton printing spread, still it can be seen at the Toile de Jouy Museum.

The history of fabric printing in Dartford goes away with Augustus Applegath's acceptance of a silk printing works in the town and it sustained until 1865 when James Keymer established a new fabric printing works on the banks of the River Darent. In 1907 Samuel Simon was used a fabric printing system in which the designs were shaped from stencils through screen printing machines. Development in last two decades

Earlier, direct printing method used for fabric with the computer and the printing is made with the computer inks; it was the time where fabric was printed using only black images or text because of the availability of only laser printers and ribbon printers and there were no color printers. In 1999 Bubble Jet Set printing technology developed, which permits fabric to be treated, amalgamated to freezer paper with an iron and then operate through an ink jet printer.

The meaning of Digital fabric/Textile Printing

The digital fabrics printing technology is existed since last decade, it emerged after 1994. It is a skill that prints the designs on fabric, immediately from your computer, without extra efforts just like printing and designing a paper. Types of digital fabric printing technologies

There are various types of digital printing technology available in market like thermal DOD Ink jet
Piezoelectric DOD ink jet, airbrush/valve jet, electrostatic (sublimation & resin), thermal transfer, electro photography (Laser, LED), photographic development, continuous ink jet (CIJ) etc.

DOD Ink jet fabric printing method: DOD Ink jet printing method bring a drop of ink or dyes only when needed for printing that is why it is called drops on demand ( DOD ), i.e. it works on the principal "only when and where required in the design" . This system works as environment friendly, because of its "no paste, no waste "method, and the complete color reaches to the fabric.

Piezoelectric DOD ink jet fabric printing method: It uses electrostatic forces for arrangement and spraying of micro drops of inks or dyes in fabric printing. Here high voltages are applied to piezoelectric crystals for producing directional current. The advantage of using this methods are it formulation directional ink, where inks not heated , hence less expensive, printing heads works at its cycles per second and provides high resolution by applying small drop size of inks or dyes.

Electrostatic Sublimation Transfer Printing : Sublimation is a method whereby a solid dyes turns exactly into a gas without passing through a liquid state, can be transferred to a fabric (e.g. polyester) and re-solidify as a solid color again. Dye sublimation is a two-step process that needs additional equipment to the electrostatic printers for dye-sub. Also it requires a special paper for heating at the heat press; electrostatic printer. It is also called sublimation transfer printing. These inks or dyes can be printed onto paper from either a silkscreen process or from printers attached with ribbons with the sublimation inks. These papers then can transmit images onto fabrics.

Direct ink jet transfer method: The direct ink jet transfer method is direct transfer, or printing directly onto fabric with an inkjet printer. This process expensive and the fabrics require to be coated in order to effectively allow the inks or dyes.

Continuous ink jet fabric printing method: The ink is constantly pushed out of the ink channel by a pump by a nozzle attached with a PZT material and it generates an "ink-jet". Using an electrical power on the PZT material, the nozzle shakes, breaches the ink jet into droplets of ink and used for printing fabrics. Continuous ink jet fabric printing method also available with its binary hertz operation and multi-deflection system.

Software application in digital fabric printing: For digital fabric printing Color management Systems (CMS, Calibration), Raster Image Processor (RIP), printer driver software, design lay out software (CAD), etc are widely used.

11 Indie Movies to Watch Out for in '11

Everybody knows the big Hollywood movies scheduled to release this year. We all know what blockbusters will be lighting up the box office and hitting our theaters. However, all too often, some of the best movies of the years are the ones we never hear about. The ones that aren't big Hollywood releases and don't receive the publicity that your 'Transformers' or 'X-Men' receive. Thus, today I'd like to turn the attention to indie movies. Here is a list of 11 independent films that should be good and are worth watching out for in 2011.

1. The Silent House

Director: Chris Kentis

Writer: Laura Lau

Stars: Elizabeth Olsen, Adam Trese and Haley Murphy

Premiere: Sundance Film Festival 2011

Genre: Horror

What is it: Trapped in a nightmare, a young woman descends into madness.

Analysis: Kentis and Lau were the duo responsible for the 2004 sensation Open Water. In their follow-up film, Kentis and his wife Lau return to remake Gustavo Hernandez's Uruguayan film by the same name. What's impressive about this movie is that it is done in one long continuous shot. Now, a few movies have tried this before, but none really succeeded so well in presenting a good movie with it. For that reason, with the addition of tight spaces to film in, the original was quite the achievement in cinematography. The film itself was well-received by critics and said to be a fine addition to the horror genre.

So, that being said, we know the source material is good. We know the concept can be a good movie. Now let's see what American filmmakers can do with it. I'm left somewhat skeptical due to the boring venture that was Open Water from Kentis and Lau. Not to mention, most of the time it turns to crap when foreign films get an American remake. However, that's usually in reference to Hollywood remakes of foreign films, so it could be better with indies doing the remake. The material is there though and we could potentially have another Paranormal Activity on our hands, which I believe is a good thing. So I'll definitely be keeping an eye out on this one.

2. I Saw the Devil

Director: Kim Ji-woon

Writer: Hoon-jung Park

Stars: Lee Byung-hun and Choi Min-sik

Premiere: The movie has had a theatrical release in South Korea. It has also appeared at a few international film festivals late last year. However, it will be making it's US Premiere at Sundance Film Festival 2011.

Genre: Crime Thriller

What is it: Kyung-chul is a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. He has committed infernal serial murders in diabolic ways that one cannot even imagine and his victims range from young women to even children. The police have chased him for a long time, but were unable to catch him. One day, Joo-yeon, daughter of a retired police chief becomes his prey and is found dead in a horrific state. Her fiance Dae-hoon, a top secret agent, decides to track down the murderer himself. He promises himself that he will do everything in his power to take bloody vengeance against the killer, even if it means that he must become a monster himself to get this monstrous and inhumane killer.

Analysis: Kim Ji-woon was responsible for Tale of Two Sisters and The Good, The Bad and The Weird, both of which were good movies. The South Korean film I Saw the Devil has been met with good reviews. Ji-woon really is an entertaining filmmaker. And I Saw the Devil is said to bring that mastery of style that Ji-woon is known for. It's also a highly violent, cold and disturbed film. While many say there's not much depth to the story, it still provides for an entertaining film for those that can stomach it. Being as his two previously mentioned films have been a fun ride, I'm looking forward to seeing what Kim Ji-woon delivers here.

3. 13 Assassins

Director: Takashi Miike

Writer: Daisuke Tengan, based on a screenplay by Kaneo Ikegami

Stars: Kôji Yakusho, Takayuki Yamada and Yûsuke Iseya

Premiere: Theatrical Release on April 29, 2011

Genre: Action

What is it: A group of assassins come together for a suicide mission to kill an evil lord.

Analysis: If you've never heard of Takashi Miike, then chances are you're not exactly one to branch out into foreign film, especially Japanese. Miike is something of a legendary Japanese filmmaker (and highly controversial). Not only that, but he's one of the most dedicated and busiest filmmakers in the industry today. He averages like 4 films per year. In his busiest years, from 2001-2002, Miike was credited with making 15 films. Yea, that's a lot. In fact, that's an insane amount. With such movies as Audition, Sukiyaki Western Django, Ichi the Killer, Visitor Qand the Dead or Alive series, Miike has become quite the prolific filmmaker.

While I felt Ichi was a bit overindulgent and shocking just for the sake of being shocking (which isn't uncommon for Miike), thus I didn't exactly care for it, Audition still stands as one of the scariest movies ever in my opinion. And Sukiyaki Western Django is one of the best westerns in recent years; don't let the samurai style fool you, it's definitely a western. In fact, I don't think most people appreciate just how similar the kung-fu/samurai and western genres are, nor how influential they have been on one another.

13 Assassins is said to be one of Miike's more tame films (at least by his standards) and his most polished and mature work to date. Being an excellent addition to the samurai subgenre, 13 Assassins has received rave reviews. Anyone interested in the stylish work of Miike or in martial arts/samurai movies in general should find this to be one that is not to be missed.

4. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

Director: Troy Nixey

Writer: Guillermo Del Toro and Matthew Robbins, based on a teleplay by Nigel McKeand

Stars: Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison

Premiere: With the whole Miramax deal, this movie actually got delayed. As far as I know, there has been no new date set for release. However, I'd imagine we'll get to see it sometime in 2011 as things get squared away at Miramax (who is distributing the movie).

Genre: Horror Thriller

What is it: A young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own.

Analysis: Guillermo del Toro wrote and produced this movie. Last year, he sent it in to be rated by the MPAA hoping to get a PG-13 rating without sacrificing the scares. Unfortunately for him, the MPAA returned giving the film an R rating on the grounds of "pervasive scariness". When Guillermo contacted them and asked if there was anything he could do, their simple response was: "Why ruin a perfectly scary movie?" If I knew nothing else, I have to admit, that would seriously intrigue me. Couple that with the teaser trailer that was released (which I have to admit was a bit eerie and scared me just a tad), and I'm definitely interested in this movie and could absolutely understand this turning into a real good scary movie. Especially with Guillermo del Toro behind it.

5. Vanishing on 7th Street

Director: Brad Anderson

Writer: Anthony Jaswinski

Stars: Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo

Premiere: Theatrical Release on February 18, 2011

Genre: Horror Mystery Thriller

What is it: When a massive power outage plunges the city of Detroit into total darkness, a disparate group of individuals find themselves alone. The entire city's population has vanished into thin air, leaving behind heaps of empty clothing, abandoned cars and lengthening shadows. Soon the daylight begins to disappear completely, and as the survivors gather in an abandoned tavern, they realize the darkness is out to get them, and only their rapidly diminishing light sources can keep them safe.

Analysis: I'm actually a fan of Brad Anderson a bit. His past works The Machinist, Session 9 andTranssiberian have all been fairly decent thrillers. It seems he has a solid grasp on the genre, despite having yet to make that masterpiece of his own. And while Vanishing is receiving mixed reviews out of last years film festivals, thus isn't going to be that masterpiece, it should still be a solid effort from Anderson. His low-key style is somewhat refreshing in this overindulgent industry. And he's becoming a fairly solid creator of genre films. While I'm doubting this to be even remotely close to being the greatest film of the year, I think it should provide for an entertaining and interesting watch.

6. The Beaver

Director: Jodie Foster

Writer: Kyle Killen

Stars: Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, Jennifer Lawrence and Anton Yelchin

Premiere: Theatrical Release on April 8, 2011

Genre: Comedic-Drama

What is it: A troubled husband and executive adopts a beaver hand-puppet as his sole means of communicating.

Analysis: Ok, I'll admit: the most intriguing part about this, for me, isn't the movie itself, but rather the casting. The premise of the movie is obviously that of a definitely troubled/border-line psychotic guy. So, they go out and cast Mel Gibson to play that role? I love it. It makes it seem like a car wreck you just have to see. The dark comedy, however, is receiving some praise from those that have seen it. I have enjoyed Foster's past work Little Man Tate as well. And I believe Anton Yelchin is a good young actor and Jennifer Lawrence proved herself to be a capable actress in last year's Winter's Bone. So, just watching media darling Mel Gibson play the suiting psychotic character could be fun. And in the end we may even get an intriguing dark comedy. The movie definitely has some buzz about it and should be one to watch out for.

7. Moneyball

Writer: Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian (screenplay); Stan Chervin, Stephen J. Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson (writers); based on book by Michael Lewis

Stars: Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Robin Wright and Phillip Seymour Hoffman

Premiere: Theatrical Release on September 23, 2011

Genre: Sports Drama

What is it: The story of Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane's successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget, by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players.

Analysis: Well I do enjoy a good sports movie. This one coming from the Oscar-contender Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network). Also, it has something of an all-star cast with Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Wright. Miller's previous directorial work was Capote (also with Hoffman) which was a fairly decent movie itself. With such a talented cast and crew put together and such a highly-regarded source material, this could turn out to be a quite good genre movie.

8. Cedar Rapids

Director: Miguel Arteta

Writer: Phil Johnston

Stars: Ed Helms, John C. Reilly, Sigourney Weaver and Anne Heche

Premiere: Sundance Film Festival 2011

Genre: Comedy

What is it: Tim Lippe has no idea what he's in for when he's sent to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to represent his company at an annual insurance convention, where he soon finds himself under the "guidance" of three convention veterans.

Analysis: Another comedy with a nice cast including Ed Helms and John C Reilly. The trailer looked amusing and showed potential of being a pretty funny movie. The movie is also being helmed by the same director that brought us Youth In Revolt which was a decent dramedy in itself, so it should be interesting to see what his follow-up film will be like.

9. The Skin That I Inhabit

Director: Pedro Almodovar

Writer: Pedro Almodovar; based on novel by Thierry Jonquet

Stars: Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya and Marisa Paredes

Premiere: Limited Theatrical Release on November 18, 2011

Genre: Thriller

What is it: Based on Thierry Jonquet's novel "Mygale", this revenge tale tells the story of a plastic surgeon on the hunt for the men who raped his daughter.

Analysis: Pedro Almodovar is one of the most revered Spanish directors around. In this movie, Antonio Banderas will be re-teaming with the man that made him a star. This is set to be Almodovar's darkest movie yet and said to be a dark horror thriller. The most compelling part of this is the part Antonio will be playing. Said to be an absolutely brutal role, we'll watch as the normally cool/suave guy turns into a creepy and haunting character out to exact a cold, calculating revenge.

10. A Dangerous Method

Director: David Cronenberg

Writer: Christopher Hampton

Stars: Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley and Michael Fassbender

Premiere: Reports say an October release

Genre: Dramatic Thriller

What is it: A look at how the intense relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud gives birth to psychoanalysis.

Analysis: The cast alone is enough to get me excited. I love Viggo's work. Knightley is one of my favorite actresses and Fassbender has definitely made a name for himself. On top of that, David Cronenberg is a respected filmmaker himself. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of his previous outings with Viggo (A History of Violence and Eastern Promises), so if those are anything to go by, this could turn into quite an entertaining psychological thriller.

11. My Idiot Brother

Director: Jesse Peretz

Writer: Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall

Stars: Paul Rudd, Zooey Deschanel, Elizabeth Banks and Emily Mortimer

Premiere: Sundance Film Festival 2011

Genre: Comedy

What is it: Despite looking for the good in every situation and the best in every person, Ned always seems to find himself holding the short end of the stick-being conned into selling pot to a uniformed cop, being dumped by his girlfriend, and worse yet, losing custody of his beloved dog, Willie Nelson. When he turns to family, he is passed from sister to sister while he gets back on his feet. Ned's best intentions produce hilariously disastrous results, bringing the family to the cusp of chaos and ultimately the brink of clarity.

Analysis: Paul Rudd should do well in carrying a quirky comedy such as well. One that is sure to deliver laughs but also have a heart, blending humor and humanity nicely. With a good cast capable of such nuanced performances, that blend should be fairly easily attainable and delivered well at the hands of Peretz. This could end up being this year's Cyrus and is definitely one to look out for as it's gaining quite a lot of buzz around it as it heads into the Sundance Festival.

So there you have it. What I believe to be a solid list of indie films to keep an eye out for this year. Some lesser known interesting movies to go along with all those big blockbuster movies that you know of and are anticipating in 2011.

The Abyss - Movie Review

It's been twenty years now since James Cameron's film, The Abyss hit theaters. After all that time, let's take a look at the film to see how well it has aged.

The film stars Ed Harris as "Bud" Brigman, and he has been tasked to check out what happened to a lost submarine. What he discovers is that water-based creatures live deep at the base of the ocean, and are upset about having been disturbed.

The film was something of a surprise at the time. At first, The Abyss doesn't really come across as a science-fiction film. It seems, instead, like some sort of action film that is going to take place underwater.

However, it slowly becomes clear that what is going on at the bottom of the ocean is more akin to something extra-terrestrial. Instead of the recovery of a submarine, we instead have a story of discovery where an entirely new form of life has been discovered.

The film does an excellent job of covering the details of underwater travel. Not being an expert myself, I'm not sure how accurate the information is, but it certainly sounds accurate. Not only that, but they make it sound dangerous. This increases the overall level of tension to the film.

There's also some technological fiction as well, in the breathable liquid that can be used for very deep-sea diving. This single technology expands the possibility of underwater exploration in a very drastic way, and the technology is used for one of the most startling moments in the film.

The Abyss is a unique film in a lot of ways. It is a science fiction film that doesn't announce itself as such. Instead, we slowly realise that the protagonists are not simply looking for a submarine, and they have found something completely new.

Top 10 TV Shows of All Time

Here is my list of my all time favorite TV shows, in no particular order. These are the shows that I could watch at anytime. I'll try to keep it fun by telling you what I didn't like about them and their characters, some great lines from the shows, maybe some interesting things you didn't know, and more - anything but just the usual top ten list.

1. The Rockford Files
Cool theme song; cool car (gold Firebird, which crashed innumerable times); great cast with Rocky, Angel & others; cool trailer on Malibu beach with a handy bar for rendezvous and drops; great cases, mostly believable; lots of good guest stars, like Lyndsey Wagner at her most beautiful. I've said all this without even mentioning the lead: James Garner, the consummate cool actor.
Gimmicks and or quirks, etc.: now-dated answering machine from which we hear something amusing before the theme song kicks in; James Garner's brother Jack in cameo roles as, often, a bailiff, a bartender and the like.
Great line: Angel: "Just do (kill) Jimmy, and I'll spread the word (tell what might happen to others should they doublecross these thugs like Jimmy did)."

2. Gunsmoke
What a great cast, with Matt, Doc, Kitty, Chester, Festus, Sam and others. This show began as thirty minutes but was expanded to an hour. Some of the early shows were tightly scripted and regular works of art. Ran twenty years (1955-75).
Gimmicks and or quirks, etc.: early on, old Doc was often drunk as a skunk, but he sobered up as the years passed; the Bull's Head saloon as a rougher alternative to Miss Kitty's Longbranch; the house near the pond, which was often used in scenes set out of town.
Great line: "Becasue we're gonna bushwhack em," as said by a very early and very un-Matt Matt, to Chester, when Chester asked him why they were hiding out in a cabin with some thugs nearby.

3. The Andy Griffith Show
This show has always been very therapeutic for me to watch . . . just something about it I can't put my finger on; let's just say that if it's an episode I've already seen, I don't care, I'll watch it again, because I just want to be in Mayberry, and it doesn't matter to me what they're doing there.
Gimmicks and or quirks, etc.: drunk Otis having access to the keys as he's locked up weekly for being lit up; Andy being a lot more "countrified" in the earlier episodes, his pants sometimes stuck clumsilly down his nerdy boots; barber Floyd being nearly mad . . . as in crazy; Goober saying, "Yo"; Gomer saying, "Tell 'em Gomer says hey"; very fake downtown Mayberry drawn as background mural outside the courthouse door; different love interests for Andy; such as, Elinor Donahue, Joanne Moore (Tatum O'Neal's mom), Julie Adams, Anita Whatever who played Helen for a long run. (I was more of a Thelma Lou fan; she looked remarkably like Olivia De Havilland.)
Memorable lines: Goober: "Judy, Judy, Judy"; Gomer: "Shazam!"

4. M*A*S*H
Great ensemble cast. We've all seen it, so let me just blurb about the characters:

Hawkeye: Great except for when there was too much Hawkeye, like when he was trying to stay awake by babbling to this Korean family unfortunate enough to be housing him. Don't get me wrong - I love the role.

Trapper:
Annoying to me, a bit too precious with the raised eyebrows and shoulder shrugs.

B.J.:
Better before he got the mustache, after which, he seemd to have a chip on his shoulder as if unsure of his manhood should anyone get beneath the cheese of the mustache.

Klinger:
Better before he became "Christianized" - I think you know what I mean if you've watched; just a tad too nice, a bit too eager to please.

Hot Lips:
I surrender. Lead me to Margaret in her tight sweater and tight britches, especially when her hair was parted in the middle, and before she got too thin and lost most of the Hot Lipsishness. There is, however, a nasty scene with her, when she and Charles were eating some canned bird and they became sick because of it - her teeth were quite yellow and she looked kind of gross gorging herself on it.

Father Mulcahey:
The excitement level dropped a foot when he was given a line. Sorry.

Charles E. Winchester:
Great role; very noble at times ... but justy barely, as when he admitted some general molested Hot Lips and not the other way around.

Radar:
The Zen and Taoist center of the cast, always trying to hide his poor deformed left hand, often behind a clipboard, as if any of us would think anything of it. (Pat Hingle, who guested as General Daniel Webster Tucker, was missing a pinky and didn't try to hide it.)

Henry Blake:
Laugh riot; could have cried when he was killed off.

Colonel Sherman T. Potter:
One of the most annoying roles ever, one of those old grumps who thinks he's a natural treasure and that people want him to be regurgitating arid cliches. Pretty much played the same dumb role in Dragnet (see below).

5. Alias Smith & Jones
Great show because of the charming leads, Pete Duel & Ben Murphy. Pete, who committed suicide during the run of the show, was replaced by Roger Davis, who did the original narration of the lead-in theme. Mr. Davis wasn't nearly as likeable as Mr. Duel, though he was adequate in the role. There were some great guests, like Burl Ives, and some beauties like Michelle Lee, Claudine Longet, Susan Strasberg & Sally Fields. The show is said to be a takeoff on the popularity of the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid film.
Gimmicks and or quirks, etc.: the promise of amnesty for their crimes always being just on the horizon but somehow always beyond reach; the recurring Devil's Hole gang.

6. Law & Order
We all know this show that has run for years and has the most twisting and interesting plots, so let's get down to the good stuff: the rating of the female ADAs as to their attractiveness. (The list below shows the best as being #1.)

1. Angie Harmon - that voice, the withering looks with which she could emasculate any male perp, her model looks, & heck, she comes from Texas!
2. Carey Lowell - the word adorable was created for this fresh-faced, earnest Bond girl; if she's good enough for Richard Gere, she's good enough for you.
3. Jill Hennessey - another model-quality gal with a husky voice, the exqusite bobbed hair; oh, how brutally they killed her off!
4. Annie Parisse - maybe the most beautiful of all, but her run seemed brief to me; related by marriage to Sam Waterston in real life, I believe; another of them killed off, she choking on her own vomit.
5. Alana de la Garza - haven't seen that much of this girl, but she's a stunner with sculpted features.
6. Elisabeth Röhm - oh, dear, this girl was nice and pretty enough but, whereas she was attractive, the other girls mentioned above were absolutely magnetic; it's probably the blond hair, and she looks to me pretty much like every other blond.

7. Dragnet
This cop show was so earnest and corny, it was wonderful, and I couldn't take my eyes off it. I only had much exposure to the later (reborn) color issue of it beginning in the sixties. I think producer and star Jack Webb was trying to do the LAPD a big favor with this show, back in that crazy era, in trying to show that cops weren't so bad; but it was often pretty heavy-handed stuff, with the hippies being pretty much evil and the bad cop being as rare as platinum. Lots of square and cornball drug use allusions. Be warned, the grating Harry Morgan (who just turned 94!) was his sidekick (see M*A*S*H note above).
Gimmicks and or quirks, etc.: Jack Webb barely moving his arms as he walked stiff as a board; watch for Kent McCord as officer Jim Reed, without Martin Milner, of Adam 12; watch for Bobby Troup (as a bartender, perp, etc.), who penned song classic "Route 66" and was married to Jack Webb's ex-wife Julie London, with whom Bobby later starred in Emergency.

8. The Waltons
This show was born from the excellent and now classic Christmas movie The Homecoming. Seven kids living in 1930s-40s Virginia with their parents and paternal grandparents. Lots of heartwarming episodes. Slow episodes always concerned a moody Olivia. I had a big crush on Erin! My favorite episode was about a class reunion of John's (Ralph Waite's) high school class, in which several of his old classmates gave the warmest tributes to John; John was my favorite character.
Gimmicks and or quirks, etc.: the old family truck, which seemed to be held together with chewing gum and chicken wire; Daddy's (Ralph Waite's) old longjohns looked like they might stand up by themselves if he ever took them off and stood them in a corner; the woodenness of the replacement John Boy when Richard Thomas left the show. Did you know that Mama (Michael Learned) wasn't really old enough to be John Boy's (Richard Thomas's) mother in real life, because there were only twelve years' difference in their ages?

9. Dallas
This wasn't just a show around my house on Friday nights, it was an event! We would pop popcorn and all gather around the set. Let me just blurb about some of the characters:

J.R.: Who shot this guy? As evil as a lead came, but he had a deep sense of family . . . unless, of course, that family member stood in his way of something he wanted. Someone please set him up with a quenching bourban and branch, please. Jock: This patriarch always seemed to be way too rugged for the sissy settings, like breakfasting around the pool; one would rather expect to see him sniffing out an oil well or busting a bronco. He died too young, taking some of the heart of the show with him. Bobby: The pretty boy. Too nice until he learned to get right down in the dirt with J.R. He got to do love scenes with a youthful and exquisite Victoria Principle as Pam. Aside: My family and I sat next to his table at a Louise Mandrell concert, and she pointed him out in the audience and had him take the stage and do a number with her; and he obliged her, good sport that he was. His Buddhism helped him cope with the brutal, real-life murder of his parents. Pam: Tons of sex appeal but needy and moody. Sue Ellen: Beautiful ex Miss Texas. Drunk. She would hook up with Cliff Barnes & Dusty Farlow to get back at a cheating J.R. I thought shows with her battling the bottle were snoozers. Had sexy May/September fling with Chris Atkins (as Peter). Miss Ellie: Boring character. You will wonder what Jock and Digger Barnes . . . or anybody, for that matter, ever saw in her. Could kill the excitment level of any episode with one of her audible sighs. Lucy: Sex kitten deluxe. Drove the much older Ray Krebs wild in the early days of the show, by seducing him in his truck as he drove her to high school, which led to their locating the nearest hayloft. She was built like a brick dollhouse and she knew it. Scenes she was in seemed to have a potential for fireworks, because she might say something that could be embarrassing to just about anyone.

10. The Situation Room
I better list a news program before you know I'm a complete idiot. The hard-working Wolf Blitzer hosts this show. Grouchy Jack Cafferty is always amusing.

Michael Moore has created something of a huge following and great expectations for his work, ever since his Cannes Film Festival Award Winning Farenheit 9/11 and the assault he laid against the Bush Administration. Returning to Cannes once more with yet another politically minded bent, Moore brings Sicko to theaters this summer, an assault on the American Health System and how it compares to other major world nations such as Cuba and France.

Michael Moore is known for his deconstruction method, taking apart interviews and using them to distort the truth for use as propaganda. In a particular scene in the film, Moore makes use of the Parisian landscape to raise his own brazen agenda rather than presenting a documentary. He does not lie ever, but leaves out the truth of things, cutting total information, and carefully cutting interviews to display the perspective he's trying to create.

Despite so many shots of a happy couple in the streets of Paris who lives off of 8,000 Euros, there remains the fact that France is not a socialist nation. For Parisian youth, education must still be paid for, and that striking is necessary and expected but not a world movement as in America. Doctors are capable of arriving and helping you in the middle of the night, but it is not free. Carefully crafted stories or no, Michael Moore shows a world that is not fully realistic.

The most important part of the Moore film formula is that the audience doesn't know any better. He counts on his audience being ignorant of the topics on which he speaks and reasons through absurd methods. He shows ridiculous situations in which the only high tech medical care offered in the US is in Guantanamo.

He is a master of manipulation and manages to turn his acquaintances to his own purposes. He is able to gather three boats and take with him men and women who were thrown to the wolves by the insurance conglomerates and take them to the Military base in Cuba where they will not be able to go. He utilizes these ridiculous situations to gather the kinds of heart rending stories and reactions that resonate with his audiences.

I want to download movies and watch them, so I decided to go to the internet and looked for those websites that not only let you stream movies but let you save them to your desktop as well. You can do it too, since it only takes a few steps and is relatively easy.
