Elvis Movie - A Star That Could Cross Any Boundary

When it can to popularity there is no comparison of an Elvis movie to anyone else. All in all, Elvis made 31 movies which were all financially successful. Critics did not like all of them and criticized the King for his acting ability, but who cares what some critic says. The audiences loved Elvis and his movies and this is what was and is important.

From his first movie in 1956 titled "Love Me Tender" Elvis's draw at the box office was apparent. Paramount and Twentieth Century Fox kept enlisting him to do movies and they made many more. Both in 1964 and 1968 Elvis was in 4 movies each year and in 1962, 1967 and 1969 he was in three each of these years.

Elvis quit the movie business in 1969 without falling into the trap most actors fell into. This can be contributed to the fact that he was loyal to his friends. He did not become big headed and change his friends in for movie stars like most others did. He actually went out of his way to avoid the movie crowd.

This did hurt Elvis in part because he did not thoroughly understand the way the movie business worked. But as a fan of the King I not only respect this decision but admire him for it.

The movie, "Speedway" was one of my favorite movies that Elvis made. One of Elvis's greatest moments happen on the set of this movie. He announced that his wife, Priscilla was pregnant. Elvis was quoted as saying "This is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me".

To Elvis, Movie stardom was OK but his love of family and music came first.
